#ForTheGirlz

The Reggae Girlz Foundation and Mitchell Medical Missions have partnered together to create and operate #ForTheGirlz. Together we aim to help grow the game of football for young girls in Jamaica. The sport of football presents a promising potential opportunity for female players – the girls simply need more resources and more attention. Our work will focus on fostering overall greater interest in the girls’ game and supporting young female footballers via quarterly in-person Football Clinics, Player-to-Player Mentorship programs, and exposure to higher education pathways via the sport.

The Inaugural Program took place 2-4 August 2022 at Drax Hall Football Club in St. Ann. The camp was run by Mia Mitchell (JNT U20), Avery Johnson (JNT U17) and Karly Connell (Charlotte Soccer Academy ECNL 04/05). In-kind donations of uniform kits (jersey, shorts and socks), boots, bags and balls were given to each attendee. More than two dozen young female players ranging in age from 7 to 16 attended our three day clinic. Attendees participated in specially designed development drills, small-sided games, and full field, 11 v 11 matches. Lunch and transportation were provided for the players each day. We met promising young girls with potential who can certainly benefit from continued support and engagement in their development as players and students. We intend to provide that support.

Our next camp is planned for 13-15 January 2023. Contact RuthAnne Mitchell @ [email protected] for more information and to sign up.
